The Competition Rules

  1. All anglers must have a current fishing licence, and adhere to state regulations and bag limits.
  2. All boats must comply with the boating regulations especially those regarding safety equipment.
  3. Each team will consist of a maximum of four(4) members.
  4. Contestants may fish Gippsland Lakes and Rivers (but NOT Lake Tyers).
  5. Each team member will be permitted to weigh in one fish, per person, per day.
    Upsizing is available in Catch and Release Categories Only
  6. Any person submitting an undersized fish will be disqualified from their team.
  7. The weigh-in of an eligible bream must be a minimum length of 28cm.
  8. The winner of any prize must be in attendance personally to collect their prize or a redraw will take place.
  9. Persons participating in the Bream Classic who are under age must be accompanied by a parent at the Major Draw to be eligible for prizes>

No discussions will be entered into regarding the committee’s decisions, which will be final.

The Fishing Categories

The Bream Classic promotes catch and release fishing, with all categories containing a catch and release component. This year we've also introduced a lure category and kids categories. Expand each category below to see the specific rules relating to that category.

The Rules

  • Upsizing is available for all Catch & Release categories.
  • Entrant must be equipped with suitable live fish holding tanks. (An esky size container with adequate water to keep the fish alive).
  • Bream will only be accepted if in a healthy condition upon entry – the official’s ruling is final
  • Bream must measure 28cm or greater to be eligible.
  • Bream are to be taken to the nearest Release Station at the earliest convenience.
  • Upon arrival at the release station, fish are only to be handled by the officials.
  • Officials will tag and release bream entered into the Catch & Release competition.
  • The entrant who catches the Heaviest Bream (Catch & Release) will win a prize to be announced

  • This is a new category for lure fisherman.
  • Upsizing is available for all Catch & Release categories.
  • Entrant must be equipped with suitable live fish holding tanks. (An esky size container with adequate water to keep the fish alive).
  • Bream will only be accepted if in a healthy condition upon entry – the official’s ruling is final
  • Bream must measure 28cm or greater to be eligible.
  • Bream are to be taken to the nearest Release Station at the earliest convenience.
  • Upon arrival at the release station, fish are only to be handled by the officials.
  • Officials will tag and release bream entered into the Catch & Release competition.
  • The entrant who catches the Heaviest Bream (Lure Catch & Release) will win a prize to be announced
  • The winner of the Heaviest Bream Lure for 2017 was Wayne Hamilton from team 427 with a bream weighing 1.380kg.

  • Entrants must be equipped with suitable live fish holding tanks.
  • No Eels, Stingrays or Carp can be submitted into the competition. These will not be accepted.
  • Fish will only be accepted in a healthy condition upon entry – the official’s ruling is final
  • Fish are to be taken to the nearest Release Station at the earliest convenience
  • Upon arrival at the release station, fish are only to be handled by the officials
  • Officials will tag and release fish entered into the Other Species Catch & Release competition
  • Anglers who catch the heaviest Other Species Catch and Release will win a prize yet to be announced.
  • The winner of the heaviest Other Species Catch and Release for 2017 was Anthony Collins from team 1019 with a Poddy Mullet weighing 1.450kg

The Rules

  • Bream must measure 28cm or greater to be eligible.
  • Entrants may only enter ONE (1) Bream per day into the kept categories.
  • The entrant with the Heaviest Bream at close of Sunday competition will win a prize to be announced
  • The winner of the Heaviest Kept Bream for 2017 was Rob Healy from team 005 with a bream weighing 1.520kg

The Rules

No Eels, Stingrays or Carp may be submitted into the ‘Other Species’ category. These will not be accepted.

The person who weighs in the heaviest kept other species will win a prize yet to be announced.

The winner of the heaviest kept ‘other’ species for 2017 was Danny Rawlings from team 417 with a Mullet weighing 517g

The Rules

  • This is a category for Teams of 2 – 4 people.
  • Upsizing is available for Catch & Release categories.
  • Each Team Member may continue to upsize their fish at a designated weigh-station until end of competition.
  • The Team with the Heaviest Bag of Bream at close of fishing Sunday will win a prize to be announced.
  • Winners of the Heaviest Bag of Bream Catch and Release for 2017 was team 426 with a total bag weight of 10.045kg

The Rules

  • This is a category for Teams
  • Each Team Member may contribute one fish per day toward their teams bag
  • The Team with the Heaviest ‘kept’ Bag of Bream at close of fishing Sunday will win a prize for each Team Member to be annouced.
  • The winners of the Heaviest ‘kept’ Bag for bream for 2017 was team 005 with a total weight of 9.300kg

  • This is a category for those aged 16 and under.
  • Upsizing is available for all Catch & Release categories.
  • Entrant must be equipped with suitable live fish holding tanks. (An esky size container with adequate water to keep the fish alive).
  • Bream will only be accepted if in a healthy condition upon entry – the official’s ruling is final
  • Bream must measure 28cm or greater to be eligible.
  • Bream are to be taken to the nearest Release Station at the earliest convenience.
  • Upon arrival at the release station, fish are only to be handled by the officials.
  • Officials will tag and release bream entered into the Catch & Release competition.
  • The winner of the Kids Heaviest Bream Catch and Release for 2017 was Kiara Allen with a bream weighing 1.300kg

  • This is a category for those aged 16 and under.
  • Bream must measure 28cm or greater to be eligible.
  • Entrants may only enter ONE (1) Bream per day into the kept categories.
  • The winner of the Kids Heaviest ‘Kept’ Bream for 2017 was Olivia Wickham with a bream weighing 1.145 kg
